Origina Joins iMasons Climate Accord to Combat Tech Carbon Footprint

Advocates with industry giants to reduce carbon emissions throughout the tech ecosystem.

DUBLIN — March 12, 2025 — Origina, the global leader in extending IT asset life, reducing technical debt, and optimizing IT costs, has signed onto the iMasons Climate Accord (ICA). Joining some of the biggest names in tech, including Google, AWS, Meta, and Microsoft, Origina pledges to do its part to achieve carbon reduction within the technology ecosystem.

“Origina’s commitment to sustainability and a true circular economy is strategically aligned with iMasons Climate Accord’s mission of decarbonization of digital infrastructure. By reducing technical debt and changing wasteful mindsets across our industry, the entire ecosystem benefits and supports a path forward toward collective impact,” says Miranda Gardiner, iMasons Climate Accord Executive Director.” We are thrilled to have Origina join the ICA and look forward to driving change together.”

Through industry collaboration, the iMasons Climate Accord works toward the adoption of an open standard to report carbon in data center power, materials, and equipment. The ultimate target for signatories is net zero carbon as defined by the Paris Climate Accord.

“For too long, enterprises have been trapped in a cycle of unnecessary upgrades, driven by outdated industry norms rather than necessity,” says Origina Founder and CEO Tomás O’Leary. “It’s time for a smarter, more sustainable approach that values longevity over disposability. By challenging wasteful practices, we’re not just reducing costs. We’re helping build a digital infrastructure that aligns with environmental responsibility. Joining iMasons Climate Accord is a natural step in our commitment to real, lasting change.”

As part of its commitment, Origina marketing leader Jennifer Bellemare has joined the Climate Accord’s Equipment Working Group (EWG), which focuses on decarbonizing data center energy-intensive components and optimizing processes across the facility. The group advocates for energy-efficient technologies, renewable energy adoption, and the development of carbon-neutral solutions to reduce energy consumption and associated emissions in digital infrastructure.

“Tackling carbon emissions in the technology ecosystem requires a holistic approach and that includes addressing the role of software decisions,” says Bellemare. “Through the ICA Equipment Working Group, we’re exploring ways to extend the usable life of IT assets, reduce unnecessary hardware turnover, and create a more sustainable future for enterprise technology.”
