Back in 2022, the leading travel tech company signed a 3-year VMWare contract including an ‘Out Year Renewal’ for the expiration in 2025. The expectation was that this deal would carry the customer through the next few years with steady support costs while they worked on transitioning to the cloud over the next few years. However, before they knew it, the rug was pulled out from underneath them on the deal they had signed.
At the end of 2024, VMware’s new owners, Broadcom, informed the customer in an official letter that the auto-pricing renewal was no longer valid and they would receive a new financial offer. Essentially, like so many other businesses, they were being told that they would have to pay more than they expected to remain on their current VMware support.
Alongside the sudden rise in costs, the travel tech leader was also facing a longer-term contract than they needed, potentially derailing their cloud transition plans. The company’s aim was to remain supported on their current VMware systems in the short-term and also to reduce costs related to VMware Software & Support (S&S). As such, they were forced to consider their options within the VMware market.
Thankfully for the customer, they had a connection that would lead them to the solution they had been searching for.
