Origina Expands Independent Software Maintenance for SAP, Giving Enterprise Customers Real Choice and Control

New offering gives SAP customers a credible alternative, helping them stabilize costs, reduce risk, and modernize on their own timeline ahead of the 2027 ECC end-of-support deadline.

DUBLIN, IRELAND, 27 MAY 2026: Today, Origina, building on more than a decade of expertise supporting the world’s largest and most complex IT environments across IBM, HCL and VMware, announces the expansion of its independent software maintenance portfolio to include SAP. The move gives enterprises a credible alternative and restores control over their SAP roadmap at a critical moment in enterprise IT.

As SAP’s 2027 end of mainstream maintenance for SAP Business Suite 7/ECC environments approaches, enterprises are forced to confront a difficult reality: take on costly, high-risk migration to S/4HANA on a vendor-driven timeline, or pay rising maintenance fees for extended ECC support that businesses depend on every day. According to Gartner, approximately half of SAP ECC customers, some 17,000 organizations, will not have upgraded to S/4HANA by the 2027 deadline, with many delaying transformation programs that the business case does not yet support.

The financial picture sharpens that pressure. SAP’s standard 22% maintenance fee, the additional 2-9% uplift for extended ECC support through 2030, and S/4HANA migration price tags reported in the tens of millions of dollars are turning lifecycle decisions into a recurring software burden.

Origina’s expanded SAP support offering allows organizations to continue running their existing SAP environments securely and reliably for as long as they choose, without unnecessary upgrades or migrations. By decoupling support from vendor roadmaps, enterprises have greater control over when and how they modernize or migrate on their own timelines. The offering provides independent, expert led support for SAP ECC Business Suite and SAP S/4HANA across perpetually licensed estates, covering SAP applications, databases, integrations, third party licensed products, and highly customized environments that traditional vendor models often struggle to support.

SAP customers also gain access to Origina’s broader capability stack. The recently launched OPTAS security platform uses predictive AI and human-validated mitigation to protect SAP environments against vulnerabilities the vendor will not address, including the open-source dependencies and end-of-life components that fall outside standard patch cycles. Origina’s license advisory expertise further helps customers stay compliant and protected from audit exposure as they navigate contract renewals and vendor negotiations.

“Enterprises should not have to change working systems on someone else’s timetable” Rowan O’ Donoghue, Chief Innovation Officer and Co-Founder of Origina. “SAP’s deadlines reflect SAP’s roadmap and commercial interests which may not always align with those of their customers. We are giving CIOs and IT leaders a way to decide when modernization and migration actually make sense for their business, and the leverage to negotiate from a position of choice. In the meantime, customers can keep running their stable SAP environments with Origina for as long as they choose.”

As a result, SAP customers gain the ability to:

  1. Break dependence on vendor driven roadmaps and regain control over SAP lifecycle decisions.
  2. Maintain stable, secure operations across complex and highly customized environments.
  3. Free up budget and engineering capacity currently absorbed by keep-the-lights-on spending, redirecting investment toward innovation.

New research from Origina, which surveyed over 2,000 CIOs and senior IT decision-makers across the US and UK including over 430 SAP customers, underscores the timing. Almost four in five (79%) SAP customers expect the share of their IT budget consumed by vendor-driven upgrades, migrations, and licensing changes to rise over the next 24 months. The 2027 deadline is doing much of that heavy lifting.

As the end-of-support deadline approaches, SAP software support and roadmap decisions have become C-suite conversations rather than routine IT planning exercises. What was once viewed as a tactical maintenance choice is now a strategic decision that impacts cost, risk, and innovation capacity for years to come. Origina’s expansion into SAP support and maintenance solidifies the company as a control enabler and strategic partner for enterprises that want stability today and the freedom to modernize on their own terms tomorrow.

“SAP customers now have a credible independent choice, one built around control, transparency, and operational resilience,” added O’Donoghue. “And choice creates the competition that delivers value back to them.”
