Are you one of the many IT leaders who have been left scrambling in the wake of VMware’s stunning decision to drop their perpetual software licenses in favor of subscription bundles that will turn out to be far more expensive in the long run?
You’re not alone.
According to a Wakefield Research study, 95% of their respondents said Broadcom’s VMware acquisition poses a problem for their overall IT plans, with 46% reporting the move is either “extremely disruptive” or “very disruptive” to their IT strategy.
“We’ve had a lot of customers saying that they are a bit nervous about moving to another vendor and having the same thing happen to them in a couple of years,” says Rowan O’Donoghue, Origina Chief Strategy Officer and Co-Founder. “The industry’s moving to subscription licensing, and customers are just not in control.”
Amid the chaos, there could be another way to think about this situation. It could also be viewed as an opportunity, as Andrea Valentino writes on Tech Monitor.
“The VMware debacle is an opportunity for companies to future-proof their virtualization technology,” Valentino says.

Here are five questions to ask yourself when contemplating the future of your VMware estate.
Our e-book, “An Essential Guide to Navigating VMware License Strategies,” examines the pros and cons of Broadcom’s subscription bundles and explains how to keep your VMware perpetual software licenses indefinitely and with full support.
