An interview with our hiring manager
What was your first job?
I worked as a checkout operator in Quinnsworth (now Tesco) for 2 years while I was in school and only quit because my parents told me they’d pay me a “wage” to focus on studying for my Leaving Cert, how could I say no?
What do you do in your spare time?
My spare time is taken up running after a small human, getting to relive my childhood with trips to the zoo and feeding the ducks.
When I have time for myself, I like to go out with friends and am partial to a bit of DIY flat packing or a quick nap.
How is Origina different from any other company that you worked for in the past?
Being given a voice is a huge aspect to what makes Origina different, everyone is encouraged to speak up, there is so much opportunity to grow within your role and the business. People want to be part of the change, and you can see that in the daily interactions and conversations with individuals.
What does the day to day look like for a Director of Quality and Continuous Improvement at Origina?
Do typical days exist in any company? Every day throws up something new which is really exciting.
I have a perfect role in the business as I get to unleash my nosey streak – from understanding how the different teams/functions/processes work to asking the why and how can we improve.
I also get the opportunity to talk to our customers and understand what works well, or not so well, with no ulterior motive other than wanting to improve our service for our customers.
What interview tips would you have for someone applying for a role with Origina?
Don’t fake it – if you’ve been asked to interview, the team has seen something that interests them, if you try to be something you aren’t people will see through that very quickly.
Speak to your strengths and what you’ve done in the past that makes you the right fit for the role.
Know who we are and what you are applying for, if there are aspects you’re not sure you understand, don’t be afraid to ask the interviewer to explain or validate your understanding. And try to relax, we are all human, it’s ok to be nervous.
