OmniPay choose Origina to implement High Availability Infrastructure

Introduction:

OmniPay provides international payment processing services and Internet transaction services for banks, financial institutions and Internet service providers.

Project Summary:

Origina worked closely with OmniPay to design and implement the company's transaction processing infrastructure using technology components from IBM and its other technology partners, Oracle and BEA.

The Challenges / Issues:

OmniPay's business requires 24x7 uptime, very high levels of fault tolerance and redundancy, and high levels of security because their business has to support customers around the world. The challenge for Origina was to understand the unique needs of the company and develop a solution that would enable OmniPay's business to function as a highly available platform. The project was designed to ensure that OmniPay is able to provide transaction processing capability to its customers, via a secure, reliable and fault tolerant site, on a permanent, ongoing basis.

The Solution:

Origina worked closely with OmniPay to design and implement the company's transaction processing infrastructure using technology components from IBM and its other technology partners, Oracle and BEA Systems. The infrastructure solution, which was developed by Origina, includes the hardware that will provide the platform for the web infrastructure system, the database that will contain customer and transaction data and the web application server that is required to ensure that the site's applications can function on the Internet.

Tomas O'Leary, Managing Director of Origina, said: "One of the key challenges for us in working with our customers is to be able to fully understand their technology requirements."

"Working with OmniPay, our priority was to develop and implement a secure and highly available transaction processing infrastructure that would allow the company's platform to be scaled upwards to cope with any increase in data traffic, without shutting down or impeding any of the platform's applications," said O'Leary. "This is in line with OmniPay's requirements to develop a high end infrastructure that would allow its transaction processing platform to be available to its customers on a permanent basis, 24 hours a day, every day," he said.

The technology components that are being employed in this project include IBM RS/6000 servers running AIX, IBM HACMP high availability middleware systems, IBM SSA disk storage hardware, Oracle 8i database software and BEA Web Logic applications servers. Now completed, the transactions processing infrastructure is maintained in IBM's hosting centres in Dublin, in Tallaght and Mulhuddart. Origina has managed the transition of the infrastructure to the hosting centres.

Why Choose Origina?

"We chose Origina for this project, because they demonstrated an in-depth understanding of our requirements and the practical experience of implementing similar solutions to fulfil these requirements. The development of a suitable infrastructure to support our platform is a complex project requiring a solution that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Origina were able to provide the necessary technology solutions to partner with us in this project."
