SerCom Solutions chooses Origina to implement new ERP IT

Introduction:

SerCom Solutions is a wholly owned subsidiary of DCC plc, the value added marketing and distribution group. The IT infrastructure developed by Origina is designed to provide SerCom customers with quicker access to data, integrated solutions across all company functions and simplified business processes.

Project Summary:

Origina designed and implemented a large-scale SAP R/3 infrastructure solution for SerCom. SAP R/3 is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software suite, designed to provide solutions for a range of business functions.

The Solution:

The infrastructure solution designed by Origina integrates a range of different functions within SerCom - logistics, financial control and human resources - to increase the overall efficiency of the company's business model. Origina was chosen by SerCom as the infrastructure partner in the development of the solution. Origina provided consultancy on the scale and implementation of the hardware systems required to support the SAP R/3 suite of software. SerCom selected SAP R/3 due to its core powerful programs for accounting and controlling, production and materials management, quality and plant maintenance, sales and distribution, and human resource and project management.

Origina designed a three-tier IT architecture using a number of different models from the IBM eServer pSeries range; the F80 and H80 models, and the high level M80 model. The IBM eServer pSeries forms the backbone of a number of Origina solutions, providing high levels of availability, systems management and performance. SAP systems were successfully rolled out in SerCom's Dublin and Limerick facilities in Q1 2001.
