Want to find out about the type of innovative work that Origina carries out for customers around the world? Here are just a few examples of IT solution case studies that provide some insight into projects that we have completed.
Detailed here are the different IT solutions implemented, the skills involved and the benefits our customers have come to look for.
Storage Solution
OmniPay
OmniPay experimented with the VMware ESX software in their office environment on a spread of different test x86 servers. The general driver for this was the need to deploy throwaway servers quickly and cleanly that could be easily scrubbed after a short period.OmniPay were very satisfied with the stability and performance of those servers and decided to put a more permanent solution in place to cater for larger and more scalable virtual server deployments for actual use within their office environment. OmniPay contacted Origina to assist them when they were deciding on a reliable hardware solution to facilitate this platform.
This Origina architected cutting edge solution enabled Lakeland Dairies complete a full infrastructure refresh in order to give them a more dynamic, highly available, scalable and easier to manage IT infrastructure in order to cope with ever increasing business demands from IT.
Origina facilitated a half a billion Euro, pan-European financial services acquisition, by implementing a High Availability and Disaster Recovery solution utilising virtualisation for European Fund Services Ireland. This project won the ICT Project of the Year Award at the Irish ICT Excellence Awards 2007.
Origina facilitated the Department of Education in the complete refresh and consolidation of their main production, test & development environment in a deal that saw them invest over €800,000 in a world class IT infrastructure. This project won the ICT Public Sector Project of the Year 2008.
High availability & virtualised systems are two key areas of expertise for Origina. We established two fully operational ESX hosts running on virtual infrastructures for Airtricity that included more than twenty test and development systems.
Origina was brought on board by Royal & Sun Alliance Ireland following a strategic decision by the insurance company to streamline its IT systems infrastructure and provide for future growth in storage requirements. As a result of this decision, a clear requirement arose for Royal & Sun Alliance to consolidate and upgrade its data management methods and as a result its systems infrastructure.
Origina successfully consolidated the IT infrastructures of Norwich Union (Aviva UK) and Aviva Insurance Group. This solution has enabled increased operational efficiency for the Aviva group in Ireland. The solution has created a better management information system for the newly merged company, which in turn has enabled more effective financial management. This has provided Aviva with improved enterprise decision support & sophisticated analysis and reporting capabilities.
Origina designed a three-tier IT architecture using a number of different models from the IBM eServer pSeries range. The IBM eServer pSeries forms the backbone of a number of Origina solutions, providing high levels of availability, systems management and performance. SAP systems were successfully rolled out in SerCom's Dublin and Limerick facilities in Q1 2001.
The Department of Communications, Energy & Natural Resources
The department needed to install a new backup solution which offered not only sufficient storage capacity on all systems in the short term, but also resilience and disaster recovery, as well as investment protection to support the growth of their environment. The solution we delivered provided the necessary flexibility and scalability to be able to move forward with the department as its backup requirement developed in the future.
The South Eastern Health Board (now HSE South-Eastern Region) was in the process of rolling out the new APEX integrated medical laboratories database application across the whole department in partnership with the application provider iSoft. This software rollout was designed to replace the existing separate medical laboratory database applications across five hospitals sites with a modern, integrated regional database application with improved functionality and reliability.
In this context, the department had to replace its existing IT infrastructure to ensure it fully supported APEX. The infrastructure project was required to meet a number of strict criteria, particularly the one of being a cost effective solution over the long term as well as high levels of reliability and availability.
The Department of Justice's Finance Division, based in Killarney, County Kerry, was recently developed to establish itself as a shared services centre serving the Irish Prison Service, An Garda Siochána, the Courts Service and the department itself. This initiative led to a requirement for an upgrade of the existing server infrastructure to efficiently run the new Oracle Financials E-Business Suite 11.5.7 that was also being implemented as part of the shared services project. Origina implemented a complete solution that catered for servers, storage & backup needs.
Origina worked closely with OmniPay to design and implement the company's transaction processing infrastructure using technology components from IBM and its other technology partners, Oracle and BEA Systems. The infrastructure solution, which was developed by Origina, includes the hardware that will provide the platform for the web infrastructure system, the database that would contain customer and transaction data and the web application server that was required to ensure that the site's applications can function on the Internet.
Through their partnership with Origina, GUH devised a pioneering new storage framework for the entire organisation. Origina’s storage architects designed a solution built on Compellent’s storage technologies that deliver a variety of benefits that solved the organisations current storage issues and was able to facilitate their requirements for the future.
In 2007, Origina was requested to review the Cork City Council’s information communications and technology infrastructure, and plan a three year road map to identify and solve problematic areas and increase the current efficiencies of the council’s IT department.
