Our Green PolicyGreen IT Policy

Over the years there has been an emphasis on being "Environmentally Friendly". The requirement to "Reduce, Reuse & Recycle" has helped decrease the impact businesses and people have on the environment, which has gathered huge momentum. Governments all over the world are reviewing what they can potentially impose with regards to regulation and associated taxation. As with most organisations today, environmental concern has led to standard policies & procedures being implemented regarding computer equipment, lighting and paper waste as an example. Even the EU Commission's Code of Conduct on Data Centres Energy Efficiency has started to include a number of measures, albeit voluntary, however have no doubt some of these will fall under more stringent legislation in the future and will need to be incorporated into a "Green Policy".


At Origina it has always been our policy to ensure that customers are implementing best practices and technologies that not only reduce risk & cost of ownership, but increases flexibility, availability and productivity to get the most out of their ICT investments. Our methodology hasn't changed, but the practices we employ inherently mean that the solutions being deployed are enablers to help businesses reduce their impact on the environment.


Whether this is via remote connectivity for support, reducing the requirement to travel onsite, or reviewing existing infrastructures to highlight current inefficiencies and where improvements can be made, or implementing solutions that allow consolidation within the ICT infrastructure resulting in less equipment using less power, emitting less heat and therefore reducing cost.  By embracing the requirement to become Green and develop a Green Policy, it empowers organisations to tackle the inefficiencies, help them remain competitive and allow their consumers to understand that by using them, they too are helping the environment.


At Origina not only do we preach it but we also follow it. Our internal systems are consolidated and virtualised, we have a Green Policy to ensure all un-necessary systems, monitors, peripheral equipment, lighting, heating and air-conditioning are turned off when not required. Use of paper within the office is kept to a minimum, duplex printing, using colour only for client documents, shredding and recycling where necessary. We also make use of technologies to enable our staff to be able to work remotely, communicate online and can provide remote support from any location where there is access to the internet. So, yes we practise what we preach!
